'11' The Game

Remember when Joey and Chandler from Friends started a foosball craze in the 90s? This new product could well mark a revival of the game and attract a league of new players and also be a hit with those who are already passionate about a bit of table football with the gang.

'11' is a new table designed by GRO design and developed by TIM model makers. It is due to be exhibited for the first time at Milan Design Week later this month.

The thought behind the design was to reflect the many football stadiums built in recent years that are architecturally stunning, have become landmarks and represent the spirit and passion of the game. If the stadiums are becoming so spectacular, then why shouldn't the foosball tables?

Much thought and care has gone into the craftsmanship and concept. The 22 players are finished in bright silver chrome that represents footballers' status in sport and society. The lighting effects and the software controlling the game add further excitement to the atmosphere and to the experience of playing the game.

And now that we have whet your appetite and you have your credit cards ready, we must give you the bad news. For now, only one prototype model exists . However, it will not surprise us if they end up being manufactured very, very soon by the hundreds.

OneShot - Folding Chair by Patrick Jouin

OneShot is a folding stool. It’s also a smart trick: no axle, no screw, no spring or visible hinge. Only by virtue of gravity, a vertical bundle of polyamide rods fluidly unfolds to become a seat. The miracle lies in the technique of Selective Laser Sintering that allows the fabrication in just one shot of the seating surface, the legs and the hidden and integral articulations.

OneShot is manufactured in the folded position, which thereby enables the creation of 15 pieces simultaneously in a machine whose size would normally barely contain 2 unfolded ones.

SensorPlug for wireless power outlet

The Sensor Plug is the first motion sensing electrical outlet in the world, providing safety, security and convenience without breaking the bank.

SensorPlug is like having an extra pair of hands when you need them! The SensorPlug Motion-Sensing Outlet is a passive infrared motion sensor that’s triggered when you walk past, instantly turning on a light or even an appliance, such as a fan or a radio. Since the SensorPlug inserts right into a wall outlet, you don’t need to wire it in! It provides Safety, Security and Convenience at an affordable price. SensorPlug comes complete with a spare fuse and screw for securing to the wall plate, if desired.

I think this is a great device to have in any home, even more so if you’re living alone. After all, walking into a room with your hands full of groceries isn’t exactly the greatest way to make an entrance as you’ll have to fumble your way through to the kitchen counter.

Get the most out of your tube of toothpaste

I’ve always thought that toothpaste tubes were poorly designed. Try as you might, you’ll never get all of that stupid gel out of there. Crest had a design about 10 years ago that actually seemed to work rather well, it basically had a bag of toothpaste inside of a plastic pump. I don’t think I’ve seen those in some time though. If you’re really dead-set on getting every last bit of goo out of your toothpaste tube, then you might try out the Squeezit Squeezer (I bet you’ll never guess what it does).

This little guy basically works by putting pressure above and below the tube. Just pull one end through when it’s getting low, and you’re good to go. I’m probably too lazy to bother with something like this, I’ll just keep on thinking that I can squeeze a few more uses out of ever tube until I get frustrated and throw it away. Don’t worry about sinking too much cash into this, it’ll only set you back $6

Walkie Talkie Watches keep your hands free

Walkie talkies are useful for keeping in touch with people in the great outdoors. Sure, your cell phone is almost as easy to use (or just as easy if you have push-to-talk), but unfortunately if you’re in the great wild, you aren’t going to have much luck getting a signal. If you’re one that doesn’t want to mess with carrying a walkie talkie around in your hand or on your belt all the time, why not get a pair of that sit on your wrist.

Sure, these Walkie Talkie Watches might be a little big to wear around as ordinary watches all the time, but look less obtrusive than your average device. These will work up to 1.5 miles away, and feature VOX so you don’t have to use both hands to operate it, and even comes with an earpiece for more discrete communication. You can pick up a pair for around $65

Measure more accurately with the Scale Spoon

I don’t do a lot of cooking in the kitchen, mostly because I don’t have the patience and I’m just too picky of an eater. Most of the things I like can be made by using the microwave or boiling water, so I stick to what I like. However, if you do enjoy the culinary arts, you might be interested in this handy little measuring device.

When you need to measure very small amounts, it can be rather difficult at times. Thanks to this cool Spoon Scale you’ll be able to weigh out your ingredients with ease. It is exact to within 1/10 of a gram. It witches between grams and ounces, depending on your need and has the keen ability to measure additional ingredients as you add them.

The Spoon Scale isn’t much larger than your average spoon, and will only set you back $37

The Essence of the Sports Car

Honda will position its edgy CR-Z to better compete with hybrid sales leader Toyota. Hybrids don’t have to sacrifice looks to be environmentally friendly — they can be muscular and stylish, too. That’s the message Honda hopes to send at this month’s Tokyo auto show with its new gas-electric hybrid sports car, the CR-Z.“This is something rivals can’t offer”, Tetsuji Morikawa, a Honda engineer, said of the CR-Z, whose sales date is promised for the “near future”.

The vehicle has maintained “the essence of the sports car” while still delivering good mileage and less pollution, he said. Hybrid vehicles tend to be bulkier than sleek sports cars because of the size and complexity of the hybrid systems, which include a battery, electric motor, engine, converter and other parts. They’re usually not known for their speed, acceleration and handling.

Tokyo-based Honda, which has sold about 220,000 hybrids worldwide so far, is eager to make its stamp by showing how its reputation for sporty cars will also work for hybrids.

What does a $3 million garage look like?

Some of us only afford a family car all our life. But this guy here is special. He doesn’t settle for just one sport car or two, he gets an entire garage. An electric powered car … that swims!

Three electric motors are located in
the rear compartment of the Rinspeed “sQuba”. One provides propulsion on land,
the other two drive the screws for underwater motoring. Image Credit:
Rinspeed

That’s right, a “green” car that can go into and tool
around in the blue!

The “sQuba” by Rinspeed, is to be introduced to the
world at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show (March 6th - 16th, 2008) in Geneva,
Switzerland. With this introduction comes the first, ever, car that can actually
fly under water.

You drive the car into the water and
the car floats. That is, until you crack the door to let the water in.
Immediately the “sQuba” starts on his way to the underwater world. The
occupants’ breathing air comes from an integrated tank of compressed air that
divers know from scuba diving.

Levers help to steer the “sQuba” when it is underway, underwater

And it is
this submerged stabile flight at a depth of 10 meters that sets the “sQuba”
apart from military vehicles. While the latter can go under water, they are
limited to driving slowly over the submerged ground. Rinderknecht: “It is
undoubtedly not an easy task to make a car watertight and pressure resistant
enough to be maneuverable under water. The real challenge however was to create
a submersible car that moves like a fish in water.”

It also had to be a
sports car that was converted into a diving dream in the facilities of Swiss
engineering specialist Esoro.

In a first step the combustion engine was
removed and replaced by several electric motors. Three motors are located in the
rear. One provides propulsion on land, the other two drive the screws for
underwater motoring. They are supported by two powerful Seabob jet drives in the
front, which ‘breathe’ through special rotating louvers from HS Genion (for
opening and closing the water intake). The rotating outlet jets were designed to
be extremely light yet twist resistant by using high-tech nano materials,
so-called Carbon Nano Tubes.

NASA's top-10 views of Earth

To celebrate the beauty of our planet on Earth Day, NASA released its ten favorite photos taken by astronauts on the International Space Station.

An eruption from Cleveland Volcano in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska only lasted hours but it was captured by an Expedition 13 crew member in 2006.

In this 2003 photo from Expedition 7, you can see layers of the Earth's atmosphere. The orange troposhere is the lowest and most dense section. The tropopause is the section between the troposphere and the blue atmosphere.

This Los Angeles at night photo was taken in 2003. Hollywood is at the bottom and the bright lights in the north are from the port facilities at Long Beach Naval Shipyards and Los Angeles International Airport. The brightest lights near the center are from Disneyland, of course

Aurora Borealis and lights shine over Finland, Russia, Estonia and Latvia in 2005.

The moon appears through a halo, called the limb, that covers the Earth, as seen in 2001.

The height of Mt. Everest and the Himalaya makes this 2004 photo look like it came from an airplane.

This green aurora showed up just after sunset in 2003.

The Bernese Alps, Switzerland appear in this 2006 photo. Notice the glaciers flowing from the mountains.

Nukuoro Atoll is one of 607 islands that make up the Federated States of Micronesia as shown in this 2006 photo. About 900 people live on this atoll whose lagoon is less than 4 miles wide.

This volcanic region of Saudi Arabia is known as Harrat Khaybar as seen in a 2008 photo. Volcanoes flowed in the north-south vent system over the past 5 million years although the most recent eruption was between 600 A.D. and 700 A.D.
